Working in a growing company as an apprentice is very interesting because of the experience that I get that I otherwise wouldn’t have had.  I’ve been with Breakwater since August now and every day is different.  New staff are joining us and new concepts are being introduced all the time to improve our customer service.  Being part of a small but expanding company has given me the opportunity to help come up with ideas how to move the company even further forward. This opportunity may not have been available to me if I was working for a bigger company.  However Breakwater is always open to suggestions and I’m pleased to be able to offer them.

Coming from a college environment into a working environment was difficult at times to get used to but it was definitely the best decision that I made. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone who wants to gain experience and learn at the same time. It gives you the best of both worlds and helps you to understand the work that you are doing in practical situations, giving you the opportunity to ask questions about things that come up. These questions may not arise in a class room environment because in the “theoretical” world not a lot goes wrong. Not only do you gain technical knowledge here but you gain knowledge about how to provide a good customer service and how businesses actually work. When I came from college my knowledge was limited and very theory based. Coming to Breakwater IT has allowed me to see how things actually work and get more hands on experience.   I work alongside the service desk currently and have recently started taking calls myself on the front line.  Those around me have varying levels of IT knowledge and technical skill – every day I learn more and more!  They help me to not only resolve the issue but to understand how and why it is done so that I can provide better support to the customer.

Working at Breakwater there is never a dull moment. There is always so much to do and so many clients to provide a service to.  There is always a real buzz in the office as people dash around getting things done and generally ‘keeping the show on the road’ for the Clients we look after.  Time goes so fast, the weeks fly by!

Over the next months I hope to expand my both my technical knowledge and learn more about our client too.  I am also going to be moving from level 2 to level 3 with my college work which I’m really pleased about.
