Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) is a new internet product that gives small and medium sized businesses access to the high quality services previously only within reach of bigger “Enterprise” organisations.

EFM is ideal for customers who require a higher bandwidth than is possible on traditional ADSL products at a more competitive price compared to other fibre-based Ethernet services. EFM uses copper pairs to deliver speeds that are guaranteed and backed up by an SLA. Speeds between 1Mbps and 20Mbps can be achieved depending on the distance from the nearest BT exchange.

EFM is delivered on multiple pairs to deliver inherently high levels of reliability - if there is a fault on any of the pairs, EFM does not drop the service like traditional single pair delivery. The resilient architecture for last mile delivery allows the service to remain live at a reduced speed until the problem is fixed, ensuring the impact of “down time” on the business is dramatically reduced.
