Here is the first of the Breakwater blogs, an attempt by us to have a slightly tongue in cheek look at our daily working life. It will feature the thoughts of all the staff here, from the Chairman (that’s me!) to the Finance Manager, all the technical staff and the trainees.

Well it certainly has been another busy week at Breakwater. Our push for Telecoms is really taking off and we are busy quoting to companies across the region with a couple of new meetings each day now. We are getting lots of new installation work which is great but we also need the easy “just swap the existing supply” type queries. The way it is going though, it looks like we will need another few Telecoms staff here soon!

Shaun our new Operations Manager who started 2 weeks ago is working hard and still finding his feet. I think, no matter how experienced you are in running IT, it always comes as quite a shock seeing the variety of stuff we deal with. From Accountants, or Managed Offices one day to doing your Offshore Training the next (Shaun has that to look forward to in February!), there is certainly never a dull moment.  We also have two new guys joining us next week so we are preparing for that. We just want to strengthen our technical depth across the company.

I continue to drive Kelly, (our Account Manager) madder each day. Her role seems to change from client meetings, to SEO to Marketing, to Telecoms etc,  depending on the mood I am in (sorry!). All the fun of a growing company I guess. I am sure I was meant to be on a beach in Australia at this stage of my life but nothing can beat the sheer joy of dealing with a few technical challenges across multiple client sites I always say! (even more so if they are in the North Sea!). So another meeting with the EDP this afternoon, a big Cloud Computing meeting tomorrow and then some planning re our new Cloud Telecoms launch for Feb/March. All of this and I can’t even have a beer after work because it is January, my month of abstinence. Roll on next week and next month I say!
